Citizens Advice Croydon requires a Finance Officer to provide the organisation with a bookkeeping, financial administration and accounting system and be instrumental in the migration of our accounts from Sage to QuickBooks. You will need to work with the CEO and Treasurer to ensure the reports to the Trustee Board are completed on time and present an accurate picture if the organisation’s financial position.

This is an exciting role which will help the organisation to improve and consolidate its financial procedures and reporting and would suit someone who is AAT qualified.

WELFARE BENEFITS ADVISER and SUPPORT WORKER (Ref: MWBA2)

MACMILLAN BENEFITS ADVICE SERVICE

 £25,500pa

Plus matching 5% pension contribution

 35 hours per week

 Fixed term – Until 31st December 2016 (with possibility of extension)

 An experienced Generalist Adviser is sought to support the bureau’s Macmillan Cancer Support (MCS) Project.  Both Croydon and Wandsworth CABx have delivered MCS funded Benefits Advice Services for several years for people affected by cancer at Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and St George’s Hospital (SGH) NHS trusts, plus local community cancer centres and within bureau offices. MCS has funded a cross-CABx service as an extension of this service in a partnership with the four NHS Trusts: CUH, SGH, Kingston and Epsom & St Helier (Sutton).  This pilot has given equal access to all people affected by cancer in SW London and integrates further with MCS direct services.  The postholder will have prime responsibility for supporting the bureau’s MCS adviser by: staffing the telephone helpline; carrying out advice assessments of clients’ problems; providing information and general advice to clients; undertaking form filling and acting as a conduit between clients and the adviser.  This post will also provide some appropriate administration support for the adviser.

You will need at least six months’ experience as a trained Citizens Advice generalist adviser or equivalent and proven up-to-date welfare benefits knowledge.  Own transport is essential as there is a requirement to work within each of the trusts and across both CABx’s outlets/offices.

CVA invites you to “Meet the Funders”

croydon voluntary actionOn Wednesday 1st July 2015, Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA) are hosting a ‘Meet the Funders’ event, providing access to funding information for community projects. Come along to meet representatives from Trust for London, National Churches Trust and London Catalyst.

There will be a general session in the morning which will include ‘tips on writing successful bids and funding priorities’. It is an opportunity for groups to discuss their ideas with potential funders and collect a range of information about possible sources of grant aid. The event also offers the groups an opportunity to meet and work together.

There will be a limited number of 1-2-1 sessions with the Funding Officers. If you would like an appointment please contact Ima Miah (ima.miah@cvalive.org.uk) for a questionaire which must be returned by 16th June 2015

This event is part of CVA’s holistic fundraising support programme covering the major stages of grant applications, which will take you through an insightful and interactive journey of the key elements that form a successful funding bid. CVA’s training programme is a series of master classes and bite size workshops including evidencing the need for your project, creating project budgets, meeting the funders and much, much more. This programme is an opt in or opt out programme where you can either attend all or some of the elements that you are interested in.  As Chair of Age UK Croydon you would have a unique opportunity to do just that!

Age UK Croydon is a vibrant and successful voluntary sector charity whose aim is to promote the health, wellbeing and independence of older people who live in Croydon. Our current Chair’s term of office expires in November 2015 and we are wishing to recruit a new chair by the summer in order that a comprehensive hand over can happen.

Age UK Croydon provide an extensive range of activities and services to promote the health, wellbeing and independence of older people in Croydon. In all we directly operate some twelve projects.

Age UK Croydon has a dynamic staff team of sixty, over ninety volunteers and an annual turnover of circa £900,000. Services are managed from three core sites, and additionally we provide services and activities at over 35 venues throughout Croydon.

The Chair is supported by a committed and successful Senior Management Team and CEO and there is an established, enabling Board of Trustees willing to take lead responsibility for special projects and responsibilities.

We are looking for someone who can steer Age UK Croydon to further success by adopting a strategic view of the direction of the organization and supporting the CEO and staff team to achieve agreed objectives.

Free Training in March – Introduction to Housing

Training imageAs part of CAPT’s continued plan to upskill staff and volunteers of non-profit advice providing organisations, we will be running free training courses on: Housing & Homelessness, delivered by South West London Law Centres in March.

If you want to know:

  • What are the different types of tenancies & who can offer them?
  • What security of tenure can they give the tenant?
  • What rights do tenants have?

For any organisation that works with homeless clients and wants to know:

  • What can the local authority do to help?
  • Why does the local authority gate keep?
  •  What can be done legally to change a Council’s decision?

Places will be limited and available to all staff and volunteers of non-profit advice providing organisations based in Croydon and providing services to Croydon residents only. These courses are not open to organisations who do not hold charitable status

Cost: CAPT is covering the costs of this event so it will be free to participants

Time: 9:45am – 1:00pm

Housing Advice Sessions


HOUSING ADVICE SESSIONS

Shelter, the leading housing & homelessness charity, is holding FREE advice sessions at Mind in Croydon (Orchard House) to advise on Housing issues on Thursday afternoons.

You will receive 20 minutes of advice and if necessary may be booked onto further appointments for follow up work.

If you wish to make an appointment please contact Mind in Croydon at Orchard House –Mary on 0208 253 8211.

You may be able to be seen without an appointment on the day but there are no guarantees of this and you would need to get to Orchard House by 1.15.

NB . There are also drop in sessions to be held at Croydon Library on the 3rd Wednesday of the month starting on 19th November. You would need to be there for 1.15. The Library open sessions are organised by/through Shelter directly.
